You call yourself a “small” or “independent” press, what exactly does that mean?
As a small or independent press, RiverVision Press seeks to be a publisher of books that don’t pander to the lowest common denominator. If that sounds “elitist”, then so be it. We endeavor to be a publisher that releases a small number of books each year, intended for a specific audience.
What’s the difference between your company and some other publishing houses that might be better known?
When you say, “better known”, I’m assuming that you are referring to companies that mass-market their products. We at RiverVision Press are proudly independent, embracing a certain DIY ethic or mentality. Our goal isn’t the New York Times Bestseller List. Instead, we are seeking to fill a niche that too often is overlooked. Our vision is to publish quality nonfiction books about Maine and its unique heritage and culture.
Are you planning on publishing only books about Maine’s past?
We at RiverVision Press recognize that many stories of Maine’s past have not been told. Or, if they have, they too often are inadequately covered. There are countless subjects with a historical orientation that would be ideal projects for RiverVision Press. With that said, we are not beyond branching out into other subjects that have a Maine orientation.
